In 2006, NBC Dateline correspondent Chris Hansen sets out to make television history with the creation of a reality television series where he goes undercover to catch and shame predators on live television. After his groundbreaking investigations become a cultural phenomenon and he books the prime spot on air, Hansen slowly descends into a mutant of envy and ambition, masked as a righteous crusader. Eager to gain fame and recognition, the line between what is journalism and what is public humiliation becomes blurred, and public opinion begins to influence the way his investigations are conducted and filmed.
