Acclaimed writer-director Matthew Johnson depicts an intimate look into the early life of the late chef, author and cultural icon Anthony Bourdain, in A24’s TONY, adapted from stories in his 2000 memoir, Kitchen Confidential.

In 1976, a young 19-year-old Anthony Bourdain (known then as ‘Tony’) aspires to become a professional writer but fails to get into his college’s writing fellowship. With no desire to remain at home for the summer, he travels to Provincetown, Massachusetts to chase his unrequited high school crush Nancy. When things go sideways, he accepts a job at a Cape Cod restaurant, learning under the tutelage of Ciro, a Brazilian-born chef and restaurateur.
